About Nevill's Chapel

Rooted in the Word.

A New Testament church family in Mt. Pleasant —
Bible-centered, gospel-driven, and grounded in the historic Baptist faith. Here's who we are and what we believe.

"A local, New Testament body of organized believers."

Nevill's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church is associated with the American Baptist Association. We believe the Bible is the all-sufficient rule of faith and practice, and that salvation comes wholly by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Everything we do flows from that.

What we believe.

01

The Great Commandment

Jesus said the world would know we belong to Him by the way we love each other. Loving one another the way Jesus loves us is the clearest proof that we are His disciples and that we truly love God.

Matthew 22:35-40 · John 13:34-35 · John 15:12 · 1 John 4:7-21 · 1 John 5:1-3 · Revelation 2:4-5
02

The Trinity

There is one God who exists as three Persons — the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit — and all three are equally and fully God.

Matthew 28:19
03

Creation

God created the world — and everything in it — just as the book of Genesis describes.

Genesis 1-2
04

The Bible

Every word of the Bible was breathed out by God, so it is completely true and trustworthy. It tells us everything we need to know about what to believe and how to live.

Psalm 119:160 · 2 Timothy 3:16-17
05

Virgin Birth

Jesus was born of a virgin, and He lived a real human life without ever sinning — not once, in thought, word, or deed.

Matthew 1:18-20 · 2 Corinthians 5:21 · 1 Peter 2:22
06

Satan

Satan is real. He is a fallen angel — the enemy of God and of every person — who works as the false god of this world. His end is already written: the eternal lake of fire.

Isaiah 14:12-15 · Ezekiel 28:11-19 · Matthew 25:41 · 2 Corinthians 4:4 · Ephesians 6:10-17 · Revelation 20:10
07

Man

God made every person in His own image. The first man, Adam, freely chose to disobey God — and through that fall, sin entered every human heart.

Genesis 1:26 · Genesis 3:6-24 · Romans 5:12,19
08

Spiritual Gifts

The miraculous sign gifts — like tongues and healing — served their purpose while the Bible was still being written, and are no longer given today. The gifts that remain, and matter most, are faith, hope, and love.

1 Corinthians 12-14
09

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is God at work among us right now — sent by Jesus to guide, empower, and carry out His ministry in and through His churches.

Luke 24:49 · John 14:16-17 · Acts 1:4-5, 8 · Acts 2:1-4
10

The Deity of Jesus

Jesus Christ is God — fully and truly. He and the Father are one.

John 10:30 · John 1:1, 14 · 2 Corinthians 5:19
11

The Suffering of Jesus

When Jesus suffered and died, He was standing in our place — taking the punishment our sin deserved. His death is enough for the whole world, and it saves everyone who puts their faith in Him.

Isaiah 53:6 · Hebrews 2:9 · 1 Peter 2:24 · 1 Peter 3:18 · 2 Peter 3:9 · 1 John 2:2
12

The Resurrection

Jesus physically rose from the grave and ascended into heaven — and because He lives, everyone who belongs to Him will be raised from the dead too.

Matthew 28:1-7 · Acts 1:9-11 · 1 Corinthians 15:42-58 · 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
13

The Return of Christ

Jesus is coming back — personally and bodily — before He establishes His thousand-year reign on earth. His return is the great hope of every believer, when His people will enter glory with Him.

John 14:1-6 · 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 · 2 Thessalonians 2:8 · Revelation 19 · Revelation 20:4-6, 11-15 · Revelation 21:8
14

Salvation

None of us can earn our way to heaven — salvation is God's free gift. We are saved by grace alone when we turn from our sin and turn to God (that's repentance) and put our whole trust in Jesus Christ (that's faith). Admit your need, turn to God, believe on the Lord Jesus — and you will be saved.

Luke 13:3-5 · John 3:6, 16-18 · John 16:8-9 · Acts 20:21 · Romans 6:23 · Romans 8:9-11 · Ephesians 2:8-9 · Titus 3:5
15

Eternal Security

Once you truly belong to Jesus, you can never be lost. He holds His people forever — nothing and no one can snatch them out of His hand.

John 3:36 · John 5:24 · John 10:27-30 · Romans 8:35-39 · Hebrews 10:39 · 1 Peter 1:5
16

God's Children

God treats every believer as His own child. Like a good Father, He corrects us when we wander and rewards us when we obey — always in love.

Matthew 16:27 · Matthew 25:14-23 · John 1:12 · Hebrews 12:5-11 · 2 John 8 · Revelation 22:12
17

Gender Identity

God creates every person male or female, and He doesn't make mistakes. Our gender is His good design, given at birth — it isn't ours to redefine.

Genesis 1:27 · Genesis 5:2 · Matthew 19:4 · Mark 10:6 · Job 40:8 · Jeremiah 13:23
18

The Church

Jesus Himself started His church while He walked this earth. Every local church answers directly to Him — it governs itself, and no denomination, board, or outside authority stands over it.

Matthew 4:18-22 · Matthew 16:18 · Matthew 28:19-20 · Mark 1:14-20 · John 1:35-51 · Ephesians 3:21
19

Church Ordinances

Jesus gave His churches two ordinances that picture the gospel: baptism and the Lord's Supper. Baptism is for those who have already trusted Christ, and it's done by fully immersing them in water — a living picture of His death, burial, and resurrection.

Matthew 28:19-20 · Acts 8:12, 38 · Romans 6:4 · 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
20

Church Offices

A church has two God-given offices: pastors and deacons — men whose lives measure up to the qualifications God lays out in 1 Timothy and Titus.

1 Timothy 3 · Titus 1
21

Associations

Churches can and should work together — but every association, fellowship, and committee exists to serve the churches, never to rule over them.

Matthew 20:25-28
22

Freedom of Worship

We believe in the freedom to worship God without government interference. We honor and obey the laws of the land — unless they would force us to disobey God's Word.

Romans 13:1-7 · 1 Peter 2:13-15
23

Marriage

Marriage is God's design: the lifelong union of one man and one woman.

Genesis 2:21-24 · Matthew 19:4-6 · Mark 10:6-9 · 1 Corinthians 7:2-4 · Ephesians 5:22-31
