A New Testament church family in Mt. Pleasant —
Bible-centered, gospel-driven, and grounded in the historic Baptist faith. Here's who we are and what we believe.
"A local, New Testament body of organized believers."
Nevill's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church is associated with the American Baptist Association. We believe the Bible is the all-sufficient rule of faith and practice, and that salvation comes wholly by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Everything we do flows from that.
Jesus said the world would know we belong to Him by the way we love each other. Loving one another the way Jesus loves us is the clearest proof that we are His disciples and that we truly love God.
There is one God who exists as three Persons — the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit — and all three are equally and fully God.
God created the world — and everything in it — just as the book of Genesis describes.
Every word of the Bible was breathed out by God, so it is completely true and trustworthy. It tells us everything we need to know about what to believe and how to live.
Jesus was born of a virgin, and He lived a real human life without ever sinning — not once, in thought, word, or deed.
Satan is real. He is a fallen angel — the enemy of God and of every person — who works as the false god of this world. His end is already written: the eternal lake of fire.
God made every person in His own image. The first man, Adam, freely chose to disobey God — and through that fall, sin entered every human heart.
The miraculous sign gifts — like tongues and healing — served their purpose while the Bible was still being written, and are no longer given today. The gifts that remain, and matter most, are faith, hope, and love.
The Holy Spirit is God at work among us right now — sent by Jesus to guide, empower, and carry out His ministry in and through His churches.
Jesus Christ is God — fully and truly. He and the Father are one.
When Jesus suffered and died, He was standing in our place — taking the punishment our sin deserved. His death is enough for the whole world, and it saves everyone who puts their faith in Him.
Jesus physically rose from the grave and ascended into heaven — and because He lives, everyone who belongs to Him will be raised from the dead too.
Jesus is coming back — personally and bodily — before He establishes His thousand-year reign on earth. His return is the great hope of every believer, when His people will enter glory with Him.
None of us can earn our way to heaven — salvation is God's free gift. We are saved by grace alone when we turn from our sin and turn to God (that's repentance) and put our whole trust in Jesus Christ (that's faith). Admit your need, turn to God, believe on the Lord Jesus — and you will be saved.
Once you truly belong to Jesus, you can never be lost. He holds His people forever — nothing and no one can snatch them out of His hand.
God treats every believer as His own child. Like a good Father, He corrects us when we wander and rewards us when we obey — always in love.
God creates every person male or female, and He doesn't make mistakes. Our gender is His good design, given at birth — it isn't ours to redefine.
Jesus Himself started His church while He walked this earth. Every local church answers directly to Him — it governs itself, and no denomination, board, or outside authority stands over it.
Jesus gave His churches two ordinances that picture the gospel: baptism and the Lord's Supper. Baptism is for those who have already trusted Christ, and it's done by fully immersing them in water — a living picture of His death, burial, and resurrection.
A church has two God-given offices: pastors and deacons — men whose lives measure up to the qualifications God lays out in 1 Timothy and Titus.
Churches can and should work together — but every association, fellowship, and committee exists to serve the churches, never to rule over them.
We believe in the freedom to worship God without government interference. We honor and obey the laws of the land — unless they would force us to disobey God's Word.
Marriage is God's design: the lifelong union of one man and one woman.
The best way to get to know us is to join us this Sunday. We'd love to meet you.
